UFC McGregor vs. Due to a series of injuries, the company moved the heavyweight bout to a separate event scheduled for February 6, which at that time was titled "UFC ". This change made the March 5 event a smaller draw, which led to the transition to the smaller venue in Rio de Janeiro. To maintain local interest, the company then considered booking the main event as a rematch between two Brazilian fighters, Silva and former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Vitor Belfort.
Belfort declined the bout, as he wished to wait for the result of the middleweight title fight at UFC This final fall-through is what prompted the cancellation of the event in Brazil and relocation to Las Vegas. On February 23, the planned bout suffered a setback as it was announced that dos Anjos pulled out due to a broken foot. Michael Johnson was expected to face Tony Ferguson in a lightweight rematch. However, Tate came out looking to get to her wrestling in Round 2, getting Holm on her back and starting her ground and pound game. With about left in that second round, Holm got in big trouble. Somehow, though Holm fought her off for the remainder of the round, though the round went to Tate without question.
Tate continued to just wear down and stay close to Holm in the clinch for most of Rounds 3 and 4. In the fifth round, though, Tate finally got the back again and again got the chock locked back in. This was such a smart fight by Tate.
Now she has the belt to prove it. Here we go! This is where MieshaTate wants to be! What a round for MieshaTate!!!!!! UFC results and highlights: Holly Holm vs.

But it all depends on the status of coronavirus. Khabib: "Nobody knows when this thing is gonna go down. Right now is time to think about health. Stay healthy. But Sterling was more focused on Henry Cejudo, ridiculing the champion for calling out Jose Aldo two straight losses and Dominick Cruz one fight in nearly four years, a loss.
It happened the day of the [Jones-Reyes] fight. That morning, in the mat room trying to get some work in, because I had a fight coming up… we were trying to get a fight I was just passing his guard, and I did pass his guard, but as I went to get strong and collect him up into side control, contracting that pec that was already extended, it just tore on me. Nate Diaz Final Sub. Conor McGregor Fans will flock to UFC to watch Conor McGregor, but they just might find there's plenty more entertainment to be had by watching the fights that precede the main event. The card is a fairly fun one, with the co-main event between Holly Holm and Miesha Tate for the women's bantamweight title highlighting the non-McGregor action.
Sure, the impending kerfuffle between Diaz and McGregor is an interesting scrap. Two of the best trash-talkers in MMA meeting in the Octagon was a surefire way to sell tickets after losing Rafael dos Anjos, but plenty of quality fighters have the ability to steal some of The Notorious' shine in Vegas on Saturday night.
In a division as thin as the women's bantamweight class, it doesn't take long to rise to the top. Now, she's taking on the No. It's the kind of quick advancement up the ladder when a fighter wins her UFC debut against the likes of Sarah Kaufman on short notice.
Shevchenko took on the former Strikeforce champion with just over a week's notice and came away with a split-decision victory. The win itself wasn't impressive. She only held a significant strike advantage and lost the fight by one scorecard, per FightMetric. But the ability for someone with professional kickboxing and Muay Thai experience to take Kaufman down four times showcases a diverse skill set that makes her an intriguing contender.
Nunes will be a tall task. The year-old has won both of her most recent fights in the first round. However, if Shevchenko can pick up her second win in the Octagon, she's most likely headed for a top-five spot in the division.
The main card features a quartet of mid-tier light heavyweights in Corey Anderson vs. Tom Lawlor and Gian Villante vs. Ilir Latifi. Of all the fighters on the card with an opportunity to break into contender status, Corey Anderson is the most likely. The reason is simple. Anderson still has room for growth. Anderson is a serious talent with a great deal of room to grow. The former wrestler is improving rapidly as a striker under the tutelage of Mark Henry, Frankie Edgar's longtime boxing coach, and it shows in his smooth circular movement and quick-paced punch-kick combinations.UFC has a scheduled start time of 6.
The main fight card has a start time of 10 p. A full fight card schedule can be seen below. The top fight has seen some drama, as McGregor's original opponent pulled out just days before the event, meaning that McGregor was forced to step up in weight to take on Diaz.
Diaz of course will be hoping his extra natural weight will prove decisive so that he can defeat the loud-mouthed Irishman and send him back down to the Featherweights.
McGregor won't be too worried by the step up in weight though, as he has more than enough punching power. He has already proven that he is just as comfortable fighting as the aggressor or as a counter-puncher, and it will be interesting to see which he will be forced to take up today against Diaz.
Diaz meanwhile will not be too daunted by the challenge that awaits him. He will feel he is the larger fighter, he is comfortable to exchange clashes with McGregor, and he has a solid chin that he will believe should be able to withstand anything McGregor throws at him.
Many pundits have suggested that McGregor will not be reckless and just walk into exchanges against the bigger man. Rather he will look to optimize his long kicks to take advantage of a supposed weakness in Diaz's armory. Diaz though will be no walkover.
He has been in the Octagon for a long time and has experience enough to make sure he gives as good as he gets. Over the years, Diaz has grown more comfortable becoming a more physical fighter, and he will try to get in McGregor's face and bully the fight. He will try and attack to get into a clinch with his opponent and from there he can use his size advantage and wear McGregor down.
Some analysts have advised it would be best for Diaz to make sure he survives the opening exchanges and draws the fight out. McGregor is well known for coming out at a fast pace, throwing and kicking hard from the outset. However, that is difficult to maintain, and if Diaz can make the fight come down to the latter rounds then Diaz may have a better chance at wearing his opponent down.
If McGregor does gettered, Diaz is an expert at moving in and swarming over exhausted opponents. For the fans this fight should be an excellent one. McGregor is so unpredictable, and there are so many variables between the two fighters here that it could potentially go either way. However, McGregor will be desperate to win here tonight to continue to build his legacy, and even what would eventually be a wild match up with pound champ Robbie Lawler.
A loss would likely confine the Irishman to the featherweights for a much more extended period. So he is a fighter with a lot to prove today. In tonight's other big match up between Holly Holm vs Miesha Tate, Holm will be the massive favorite.UFC 196: Official Weigh-in
The way in which she demolished Ronda Rousey to explode into the spotlight of the UFC scene was extraordinary, and the undefeated fighter really should be able to dispose of Tate relatively easily when comparing the challenge today to what she faced when she took on Rousey.
However, Tate is a competent opponent and if Holm is not at her best she certainly has the talent to cause an upset. Again, this bout should be a fan favorite and will draw in extra fans to the PPV.Mandatory Credit: Mark J.
Holly Holm shocked the world in November at UFC when she unloaded a vicious head kick to dethrone the previously undefeated Ronda Rousey. Coming into this title bout there was less of a spotlight on Holm and Tate for a variety of factors. Holm and Tate were more civil in the media and benefited from the shadow of the main event between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz.
Here we go! There was a lot of feints and shifting early on as both fighters tried to gauge distance, over a minute till the first time the fighters engaged.

Tate let go of the neck and had some elbows to throw as she moved into half-mount. Holm rolled to her back to try to escape and Tate was originally high but able to get underhooks. FanSided Score: Tate Tied This is where MieshaTate wants to be! What a round for MieshaTate!!!!!!
ROUND 3: Tate had the momentum coming into the third round and how drained Holm was would dictate how this fight would go. Holm through a head kick, but there was a lot more feinting and jockeying for position, Tate wisely choosing to keep her distance and wait for the opportunity to take the fight to the mat, a smart move. Holm threw a left and Tate ducked and went for the takedown but abandoned it quickly. Holm kept working with the side kick but Tate seemed to be avoiding those as well.
Holm threw a headkick but Tate seemed to block it. Holm threw a hook kick and whiffed, Tate tried to counter and whiffed as well. Tate was now the aggressor with Holm circling. The two exchanged a flurry of combos, each connecting before backing a part. Tate shot for a take down and Holm avoided it. Holm threw a head kick again, but Tate did well to block it. FanSided Score: Holm Holm Holm threw Tate away from the fence and took the fight back into the middle of the cage.He originally had a shot to make history, as the reigning featherweight champ made a run at lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos and two-division dominance.
McGregor, who held two title belts while competing in Europe, is clearly someone who wants to make big statements. After Dos Anjos pulled out with a foot injury, the potential statement grew even bigger when the Irishman moved up yet another division to welterweight, where Nate Diaz agreed to take the fight on less than two weeks' notice. Therein lies McGregor's new career path.
Even as he spent the week matching invective with the wildly popular Diaz, the name of welterweight champion Robbie Lawler suddenly began to bubble up, overtaking Dos Anjos as the favored target of the moment. But first, there was Diaz, a dangerous boxer and jiu-jitsu ace. Oh, and Holly Holm—remember her? There were 10 other fights on this card, and as always, the final stat lines only reveal so much. These are the real winners and losers from UFC Nate Diaz, the welterweight from Stockton, California, submitted Conor McGregor in the final moments of the second round.
Early on, McGregor had the faster hands and opened up a cut around the right eye of Diaz that was bleeding profusely in short order. The first round probably went to the Irishman on most scorecards. Round 2 was a little different. Obviously, a little or a lot of blood isn't going to faze Diaz, even when it's his own.
During an exchange, he landed one of his patented one-two combination. The right cross at the end of the combo landed on the point of McGregor's chin. He appeared to spiral downhill from that point.
He certainly tired more quickly at pounds, while Diaz began to gain momentum, landing combinations with more and more ease and speed. They were rocking the featherweight champ. Meanwhile, Diaz shook off McGregor's famous left-hand shots like so many three-leaf clovers. After the action hit the ground, it was Diaz's world. When he quickly achieved full mount, McGregor rolled and gave up his back. Diaz locked on the choke, and it was over.
He also said he "knew it would be a slow start for me, so I knew I would have to start slow and pick up and let go. Congratulations to the lad from Stockton.
